Pont L'Abbe d'Arnoult

Picture is of Sally cooking a suuper of poisson provencal on the trangia cooker. It was very tasty!

The Gironde crossing was quite choppy and we couldn't see any sign of the mystery island that appeared in the estuary after the storm in 2009.. Royan was much more modern than I expected - it turns out that it was flattened in 1945 and had to be rebuilt from scratch. The cathedral looks like a multi-storey car-park from the outside, but is very impressive on the inside. The naïve is extremely high with massive windows running all the way to the top. The shame is that the concrete looks like it won't last much longer.

The traffic out of Royan was quite busy until we could turn off on the small lanes - after that it was great, though a strong head wind made it tough going.

Ponte L'Abbe d'Arnoult is a propper small town. Very refreshing after the tourist towns we have been through.

Must mention what happened last night....

After dinner at the campsite bar the waitress asked if we wanted a coffee. I said no, but could we have deux the (accent) infusion. She looked a bit blank and then said "you want a television?".

  2. How could you Hannah? Your mum and dad speak impeccable French - just like natives. Not sure of which country though… :-) Rxxxx
